TENS – Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation

A TENS unit is a tiny gadget that blocks or modifies your sense of pain by applying electricity at or close to your nerves. Low-voltage electrical currents are used in transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) to reduce pain. TENS is used by medical professionals to treat a variety of ailments.

What is the purpose of a TENS unit?

A TENS unit is an electrode-equipped, battery-operated gadget that sends electrical impulses through your skin. The afflicted nerves or trigger points (knots in the muscles) are where the electrodes (Pads) are placed by a Physiotherapist.

There are multiple types of TENS machines working on different conditions, consult your healthcare provider before using any form of TENS that is suitable for your need.

Indication Of TENS:

  • Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is used by medical professionals to treat a variety of acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) conditions, such as:
  • Back pain
  • Joint Arthritis
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Tendinitis
  • Bursitis
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Sciatica
  • Cervical or lumber radiculopathy
  • Bell’s palsy / Facial palsy

Contraindication Of TENS:

  • Pregnancy
  • Pacemaker
  • Metallic implants after orthopedic surgeries
  • Chemotherapy or radiotherapy
  • Fits and Seizures
  • DVT
  • Wound or infected tissue
  • Skin allergies
  • Eyes or lips
  • Neck front side
  • Numb spots like neuropathy in diabetes
  • Genitals
